Jazz Time Slots

Jazz Time Slots

There is no ambiguity in this game’s title. This game was designed solely for the small part of a Venn diagram that intersects between online slot players and jazz lovers. If you are a jazz musician, you will love this game even more. This is not the most meticulously crafted game, and sometimes, it can look downright cheap. However, everyone should give it a shot, and if you like Jazz music, you may find that the theme overshadows the flaws.

Cymbals and Symbols

This game is excessively basic, and feels more like a school project than a professional slot game. There is little background showing and what you do see is almost all taken over by an oversized microphone. Along the edges of the board are light-up pay lines to let you know when you are close to - or have hit - a winning line.

There are some pros and cons to the look of this game. One thing players will appreciate is the lack of filler symbols in this game. Every symbol is specific to the theme, although they are all shades of brass and silver, which makes them pretty non-descript. You can expect to see every instrument you would want in a jazz band, including a drum, sax, piano, cello, trombone, guitars, drumsticks, cymbals, and a microphone.

In a strange decision, the developers didn’t even decide to play jazz music over gameplay. Instead, all you get is a short tune that sounds like the theme of an edgy 90s sitcom more than slot music. There aren’t many sound effects either, which some may see as a benefit. Overall, this game does little to promote a positive user interface experience.

A Bonus for the Band

For a game as rudimentary as this one looks, they surprisingly did the best they could with the bonus rounds. The game only has 9 pay lines over five reels and is lacking a wild symbol but they manage to make it work with some inventive combinations that unlock bonuses.

The first two bonuses are more lucky spins than traditional bonus features. If you land five guitar symbols in a winning line, you can win up to $2,500 if you place a maximum bet. If you hit three pieces of the drum kit in the winning line, you will also get a small bonus.

The first real bonus comes when you hit the elusive microphone symbol. If you hit five microphone symbols anywhere on the screen in a single spin, you automatically win the in-game jackpot.

The one place this game shines is in its interactive bonus round. If you are lucky enough to land three piano symbols in a single spin, you activate the jam band bonus. This bonus takes you to a different screen with an interactive jam band. The goal is to get each instrument to play on key to create a song. Your job is to click on each instrument to see if they play a note on key. You get coins for each instrument you successfully “play,” but the round is over the first time one of the instruments is out of tune. This unique and genuinely intriguing game of chance makes this otherwise plain slot worth checking out.

Come for the Jam Band

There is much left to be desired about this online slot, which feels a little outdated. The game's interface lacks resolution, and the audio is severely lacking. However, despite its lack of improved graphics, it is nice that the symbols are all specific to the game, and there’s no filler. Where this game earns credibility is its bonus features, with one, in particular, standing out against not just this game’s bonus features but a majority of the features that modern online slots offer. This is definitely one of those games that you can’t judge by its cover or even its first few chapters, but if you are lucky enough to hit that jam band bonus, it will make it all worth it.
